Sweden
It’s impossible to tell ordinary things about Sweden, but it’s
really amazing and unique. Modern Sweden is at the head of the good
taste empire, representing an excellent combination of the past and the
future, primeval nature and industrial civilization, democratic and
conservative values. To the full extent it concerns fishing, when we
start talking of fishing in a good taste.
Sweden is stretched from the south to the north more than 2000
kilometers long including various natural and climatic regions. That
means a good opportunity for different kinds of fishing: sea-fishing in
Danish strait, salmon trolling in Vättern and Vänern lakes, pike, perch
and sander fishing almost everywhere, fantastic grayling and sea-trout
fishing in Lapland, etc. We have chosen the most “Swedish” kinds of fishing from this variety to represent them to you.
Tjonajokk fishing camp
We start from Lapland – a magnificent land of the mountains, rivers
and calmness. There are several famous fishing camps in Lapland:
Amarnas, Rajamaa, Tjonajokk, etc. We’ll plump for Tjonajokk and Rajamaa more closely. |

|

|
|
Tjonajokk fishing camp is located 80 kilometers far from Kiruna on the
bank of Kaitum river. If you look at the map, you’ll see, that the last
road ends 30 kilometers before the camp. There is no electricity, water
pipe and canalization. But despite the distance from civilization and
ascetic accommodation, the service there is really high: the splendid
restaurant a-la carte, grocery store, satellite phone and
well-disciplined staff.
Unfortunately, a fishing season is pretty short – 04.07 - 05.09. The
main fishing trophies are grayling, sea trout, herring and arctic char
on the rapids, pike and perch - in lakes. The license area is about 60
kilometers. There are also many lakes around the camp. It’s quite an
ordinary thing – to catch 30 graylings 0,8 kg each during one fishing
there. Where else one can find something like that?

|
 |
The place is good both for spinning and fly-fishing, but the last one is a little bit more profitable.
5 or 6 class rod, floating line, leaders set, box with good flies is almost all you need for success. Prices
for accommodation in Tjonajokk are not very low and the reason is not
only high-class service, but, first of all, it’s the cost of helicopter
transfer to the camp. It will be a lovely excursion to fly over Arctic
prairie for 30 minutes.
This tour is a trip to another fantastic reality! And it’s not even the fish that bites all the time. Meditative
landscape, freedom from the world’s fuss and the highest esthetic
combination of things that can’t be combined but do make Tjonajokk a
real brilliant in Sweden Lion’s tiara. |

Rajamaa
The next best camp we’d like to offer you is Rajamaa. It’s quite
different if compared to Tjonajokk. The main thing to be said about
this place is “High service – high control”. Guide service for 6
hours per a day is already included in package. He helps you to look
for the best places, to choose the right lures, he also watches the
hooks to be barbless and the camp’s rules to be kept.
Rajamaa is located 6 km far from the finnish town Muonio, so it’s pretty nominally to call it Swedish. Guests
of the camp can stay at small but cozy chalet for 2 and 4 persons.
There is a traditional Swedish style inside – nothing needless, only
the necessary: kitchen, shower, wc.

|
|
 |
|
This place is perfect for people,
tired from the city mess. There is also a restaurant if you don’t want
to waste your time on cooking. The license area is wide enough –
about 26 km. While fishing in Muonio river you’ll find many interesting
places full of grayling, sea-trout and salmon. In the lakes nearby you
can catch a lot of pike and perch of pretty big sizes.
The only minor thing – fishing season is very short, as everywhere in Lapland, from July till September.
This tour is very logical: transfer, accommodation, feeding and guide. In sum, all is inclusive, and we really believe, it concerns fish as well!

Vestervik
Who’d think, that a small town Vestervik 300 km to south from
Stockholm, will become the pike capital of Europe? To be precise, it’s
not the town itself but the big fishing camp, located hereabouts. It’s
clear that the whole Swedish coastline is full of chances to catch a
pike. But it happened so that Vestervik was chosen by international
experts for their reports, many well-known companies test their new
lures there. What is the reason for such popularity? Experts of our
company couldn’t help searching for answers. And now we are pleased to
share our answers with you.
The main merit of Vestervik is its
location between 2 totally different fishing regions. Fishing lands
change from reedy fleets, gone faraway to the continent, to rocky
islands just in the open sea. There are different accommodation
facilities: from modest chalet for 2 persons to fully-equiped cottages
for 6 persons. The camp is really large, there is a camping, beach and
a swimming-pool during summertime, fishing store and a boat-station.You can buy the tackles you need in the fishing store, all kinds of
jerk-bites as well or you can rent echosounder, suites or ask for the
guide’s service. Light-salted waters of the Gulf of Bothnia normally
don’t freeze over and fishing is possible the whole year round. It
seems, fishing season there never ends, the best time for sea-trout
there is a period from November till April. Top of the season is from
March till April, it’s a perfect time for prespawning pike.

Gotland
A sea-trout is caught allover the Swedish coastline, but
archipelagoes to the South from Stockholm, Gotland, Öland and danish
Bornholm thought to be the very best places. We’ve chosen Gotland. In summer it turns to one of the most popular Swedish resorts. Medieval
castles, variable cafés and endless beaches attract tourists from the
whole Europe. But when it gets cold and tourist life becomes still and
quiet, another guests come to the island. They are fishermen.
The best time for sea-trout is a period from November till April.
Fish comes very close to the shoreline and keeps migration along the
coast in search of prawn and tinker. There is a strong dependence on the weather when it comes to good fishing – warm and calm days make best chances to catch. At
the very beginning of spring, when the sun warms the water and a lot of
fish moves into creeks, protected from northern winds, peak of catch
starts. |

Both spinning and fly-fishing are possible. But spinning has a
better profit, allowing to change casting length and lures so that not
only jigs but also flies can be used. A fishing rod 2,4-2,7 m with 10-30 g test, waders and landing net, a small bag with various lures compile a fisherman’s kit. Fishermen move along the coast, surrounded by marvelous landscape, to fish perspective places.
The main goal of fishing here is sea-trout, garfish and pike by-catch. Accommodation is possible both in superb ethnic cottages and in stylish and very “Swedish” hotel. One can reach Gotland by air or by car (there is a ferry, connecting the island to the continent). This
tour is not so pragmatic as, for example, Vestervik, but it gives a
great opportunity to combine many at once: excursions, comfort
accommodation, and – the main thing – flashy and uncommon fishing.

Expert’s recommendation:
We have introduced different places in Sweden and different fish, but the leaders still are pike, grayling and sea-trout. Pike
is usually caught with traditional tackles, but jerk-bite is also of a
great popularity. Short fishing rod test 80 g, bait reel, line 0,2 mm
and bright lures (Strike Pro Buster Jerk or Salmo Slider) will be in
great help while catching pike. Fly-fishing is the best way to catch
a grayling. Rod # 5-6, floating line, leaders and fly box makes you
pretty well-equipped. Don’t forget a strike indicator – shortnymfing is
always very efficient. Sea-trout is easy to catch at the seashore.
Fish doesn’t come close because of waves and winds which are quite
often there. So, spinning is preferential in this case, allowing
changing lures and using different spoons and flies (bombarda’s tackle). So, basic fisherman’s set for Sweden is: rod 9’ test 10-30 g, waders, landing net and compact lure bag.
All
the tackles we offer, are chosen according to our experience. They are
not accidental! All the tackles, clothes and fishing accessories are
for sale right in our office and in our web www.geofishing.ru |
